Quilled Monogram – “a”

The most important thing quilling has taught me is to keep trying out something new each time ! πŸ™‚

Quilled monograms are intricate, neat and look absolutely gorgeous !

A monogram is design composed of one or more letters, typically the initials of a name, used as an identifying mark… what better alphabet to start with than “A” πŸ™‚

I started off with an italic cut out “a” using light purple handmade paper.

The base is made so that it distinguishes and adds color to the monogram. Usually light colored and pastel shades backgrounds are used for the monogram.

Then used a 3mm violet strip to make the border for the italic alphabets. Carefully stick the paper strips vertically. Let it dry.

Then start filling up the monogram. You can fill it with a mix of 3 -4 colors. I have used violet, Β cream and yellow strips.
I have mostly used c-scrolls, s scrolls, v scrolls and loose coils to fill in the the alphabet. One could use other quilled shapes.

This would take time and require one to be patient and maintain consistency.

Here is the final view. These look great when framed. Name plates could be made using this technique .

Happy quilling.

Quilled Loop Flowers!

The most intricate flowers I have ever made ! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

They look complicated but are easy to make!

They are a little time consuming but like I always say the end result is worth it all!

This piece took me two days (about 8 hours) and is currently my favorite creation !
The petals are easy to make. You require different colored 3mm quilling strips in different lengths.

For the maroon and orange petals. Start with a yellow loop, about 5cms. Fold and make a loop. For the side orange loops. Take about 10cm of the strip and fold at 3 cms and then start again and fold at 1.5cms. I learnt using this online image and have uploaded the same Β πŸ™‚
I don’t exactly follow the dimensions and I make sure both set of orange petals match. Then stick all of them together and use the maroon paper to circle the petal, taking its shape.

Follow the above steps and make the remaining 5 petals. One can use whatever color combinations they want ! πŸ™‚

I made another loop flower with blue and yellow combinations .The tiny loop flower is made using the comb and the technique has been discussed in the previous post.
Decorate around with greens to make the picture complete ! πŸ™‚

I have used tiny sparkly flowers to make it Β look more pretty and used glitter paper strips for the border !

This one will surely be framed ! πŸ™‚

Happy Quilling !!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Tiny Loop Flowers

Tiny Loop flowers

I love trying out new and new flowers ! πŸ™‚ I google and search a lot for tips and ideas..and youtube has some excellent videos to try out new flowers!

I recently learned tiny loop flowers! These are made using a comb and are damn interesting and look super pretty! These are also called cascading flowers! All you have to do is make small alternate loops using a comb and stick them in the end together!

Using the comb

I make a lot of stuff using these loop flowers and my most favourite ones are these quilled magnets! They look great on the fridge ! πŸ™‚

Frame It !

Quilling can be done on anything…Be it cards, frames, coasters, magnets! I love making Β these frames Β !

These are the ideal gifts ! Nothing better than a handmade present! πŸ™‚ And you can add your best pictures too! πŸ™‚

I had picked up a lot of handmade made paper frames and all in Bright colors like Orange, Blue, yellow !

Since Itsy bitsy has a theme of tri color challenge… here is what I ended up making! Its very similar to the earlier frames I have made!

Since the theme had to include Orange white and green…I have made a bunch of white fringed flowers and lots of green leaves around it. Used glitter paper strips to make the coils. The butterflies are made from glitter paper and quilled coils !

The full view of the frame !

The base frames are from Jute Cottage in Bangalore and the quilling strips, glitter paper strips , cut out flowers and embellishments are from Itsy Bitsy!

Was pretty happy with the end results! πŸ™‚
